Dear Mrs. Deakins - Since I received Amon's last letter, I've tried to get time to write you and ask you just what you thought about some of the things he said. For instance, in the letters, dated Aug. 5th he says, "two weeks ago, 50 new officers arrived in camp they were caputred in Fracne and all of them are extremely optimistic, but I believe they will change as the year goes by. Then in another paragraph, I spend two hours each day walking around the baseball field trying to keep my feet in condition. because I may need them. Lastly, he adds, Last week 10 officers let here to go home. they were repartarted because of illness and so forth and "don't worry if you don't hear from me often becase a lot of things can happen. Now do you think it's possible he will be repatrated? This letter can be interpretted several ways and this is the first one I we had rencetly in which he was so pessimistic. Still I thought that perhaps he was just saying those things because he was forced to do so. Do let me know what your idea is about it. Sunday, a missionary from China returned about 1 yr ago give her receives the war and I just sat almost motionless as she told story after story about her experiences, especially as a German prisoner. Well, I'm back to school, teaching again. I taught several years before doing State work and as they needed an 8th grade teacher here in the city system and I was elcted. So with 33 pupils, I'm kept quite busy. I don't teach al subjects however, as the upper grades are departmentalized and it's much easier for all. Yesterday, I have a program at our college here and as I am a garduate of the college it was laods of fun going back as a visitor. Don't know that I had ever mentioned t but I am voice major and do quite as a lot of singing - semi classics mostly. Plan to attend a class in Leville on Saturday after Jan 1st if transportation can be worked out. There is very little to do here in the line of music as Campbellsville is a small town and offers very little in such lives. Have you heard from Amon Jr. recently? WHen you can ind the time, I would love to hear form y'all again and what you think about his last letter to me. I believe that he either thinks he is going to be restored back into Germany or that he might get to comehome. Do you think that there coul be anything wrong with his feet? I'm writing this letter in study period, so forgie all mistakes, etc. as 8th graders require a watchful eye. Hope you 're well and best wishes always.Margaret E. Harding
