Dear Amon: This is just a short note to let you know that I'm on a frieghter going to the western battle front. We are a good squadron. We're going to hit them plenty hard. We've been are sea 20 days, and are all still plugging along. We've seen 4 ships, a patrol bomber and an island, all friendly thank goodness. Well I'm a shell back now, as we've crossed the eqautor. WE corssed the dateline the other day and didn't have any Monday. Gary is flying for the navy and will be comissioned soon. Sorry to hear you were caputured, but maybe, you're lucky. I don't want to be captured by the Japs. I'll be captain in a couple of months. Your cousin, Phillip E. Laughlin
