Thorp Spring, Texas Aug 18, 1887. Dear Papa, I received your letter from Groesbeck several days ago but have not found time to write until now.We are all well. We also recd your last letter yesterday. It has been raining a little nearly every day this week. Tuesday we had a very good rain. Brother and I went down to G.B. this morn, rode the ponies. The pony seems much gentler than she used to, I can get up on her without anything to stand on.I can lope on her too.Mr. Dabney got back from Ft. Worth yesterday, he went to order things for the new house.Bessie wants to go with you to P.P. but you need not come home just for her, for she need not go,and I don’t see how she could stay away so long. She wants to go any of the other children don’t want to go.Bessie & Roy wrote you a letter today. We are anxious for Saturday to come for we arelooking for grand mother. Letters still come for catalogues. One came today from Mexico, Mo.Roy is a very good and sweet boy. Mr. Dab came here today and Roy came in the house and told him that he wrote a letter to you. Miss AllaClark was married lastsunday. We will send you several letters this time, almost afraid to send them for fear you will not get them.Well as I am very sleepy I must close. Good night,Your affectionate dautJessie. The yellow heifer came up the other night.
