Thorp’s Springs, Hood County, Texas, Sept. 11,1876.Dear Bro. Burnett:Please send me the letter which I wrote you in response to your letter advising me of your projected Messenger enterprise. You can preserve a copy, if you wish; orI can return the original. I am astonished to learn from your card to J.R. Wilmeth that, in said letter, I gave my consent to have my name used on your list of associate editors. This astonishment is increased by calling to mind the few facts following:-1Bro. Ran was at Bonham just before you went to press with the first number; you asked him about the propriety of using my name; he told you that it would be better to wait until you had my consent. 2-As soon as Bro. Ran returned, and informed me of your intention with regards to using my name, I wrote at once (no second page)
