dc.description.transcription5 July '43 Dear Mr. Carter, After being separated from my unit for about a month or some special work, I returned a few days ago to find you letter of May 12th. I was indeed glad hear from you especially to get the details of Amon Jr experiences from the enclosed copies of his letter, Capt. Pirnie's and yours. Of course the great Est news to all of us is that he is safe, well and healthy. His were the most unusual experiences I have heard of in connection with that battle and it was too bad that he had such bad luck after fighting so hard to return he must have lost the good luck grown you have us in England. I understand that the only way we can write to prisoners in Germany now is to send our letter civilians in the US to mail to prevent giving identity or location of our units. So I will write Amon jr and send it to Mary to forward. The last great round up in Tunisia was very exciting and I'm sorry Amon Jr. missed the show wish you had been there too. We evened the score for our previous disaster, although it takes many Nazis to equal on American. As mentioned in my previous letter, Col Hains has returned to the US, but I have written him and conveyed your message. I expect to see Maj. Weidermann in a few days and will show him the copies of Amon's communications. sincere best wishes to you DG Talbot
