Corpus Christi, Texas Dec 14, 1935 Mr. Amon G. Carter, Executive Will Rogers Memorial, Ft. Worth, Texas. Dear Mr. Carter: Here verily is the "widows mite" in comparison to all your other contributions but as I, and my family, loved "our Will" I want to be among those to subscribe our few pennies. I have been to the Caller-Times office to leave some but Mr. Kunkel, in charge of fund was out. So I walked over to the Post Office, having no car nor like accessories, and obtained P.O. money order and hope "my bit" is not too late to give the general fund. I am enclosing list of names starting with my dear dads name and on to my aunt and sister, husband, and my children and last but not least my dear little grand daughter, Peggy Jean. Do wish the sum sent could be a million, no one deserved it more for his (Will's) noble soul and character did so much for us. (Especially when we were blue) How we miss Will! and I was thinking when the NBC studios in Hollywood were dedicated last Sat. night that the program was incomplete because of his absence. I thank you from the depths of my heart for accepting this small gift, as I know you will. Wish I could be a "big enough somebody" so I could suggest creating a loan fund for worthy students to draw from when wanting so much to attend school and college. We have had such a struggle the last few years giving our children an education. Sincerely, Mrs. H. L.
