dc.description.transcription | Dear Amon - Your letter in Elliott's behalf written last month was so wise that although I had an opportunity to thank you briefly in Washington I wanted to do so again and explain a little bit what has happened since then. General Watson talked to us at the time of the inauguration as to the advisability of Elliott's attempting to get a transfer at that time so he decided to let it drift for a while. Also I think the question had arisen in his mind that as his years service is presumably over in October and the work in Texas probably wouldn't begin for some time it might not be wise to attempt to make a change. However, I believe he does feel that the period of service is very apt to be extended so I think he will now really attempt to be moved. This letter is for the purpose of thanking you on behalf of both of us. You wouldn't believe it but Elliott can't handle any personal correspondence in his office. I'll be down to Texas in March and Elliott will be flying down for an occasional weekend - so we both look forward to seeing you. Most Sincerely Ruth February 19th | |
