dc.description.transcription1 Camp Bullis Aug. 2, 1935 Dear Grandma: I got your letter last week and as usual, I was very glad to hear from you. Grandma Smith and Doris, David, Virginia, Florence, Beatrice and finally you say that my pictures are good so I guess I'll hve to give in but I still don't think they are. Tell Pearl I'm awfully sorry but I've given all my pictures away to my kinfolks but that 2 I'll have some more made sometime and send her some. Tell Ray he hasn't anything on me. I'd like to see him too. I wonder what's the matter with John. I wrote to him about two months ago and he hasn't answered yet. Isn't it just too tough on poor old Ike. It seems as if all his sons-in law fall back on him. Aunt Lucia tells me Raymond Doane got the Holy Ghost and shouted and danced all over the room. It sure surprised me P.s. Tell Ray to hurry up and write or I will 3 hear that Mannie Rice and Cora Plant ran away. Cora & Michel weren't divorced, were they? We came to Camp Bullis yesterday in a string of Army trucks a half a mile long. And they had to make a good many trips. I like it out here. Its got big hills covered with rocks, scrub oaks, lizards horned toads, mesquite snakes etc. Its hot in the day time and we sleep under blankets at night. And can we sleep 4 out here in the open. There are about 5,000 men out here, all in tents. There are all the way from two to 7 in each tent. Tehre are four besides myself in mine. There is a swimming pool, theater, baseball diamond, football, gridiron, landing field etc. So far we've just set up tents and cleaned up. The reserve officers will be here Monday to take charge. I'm sorry but I can't possibly send $9 this month as we all had to buy some shirts (1.32 each) and I subscribed for a magazine. Lots of love Smith S.L. Green Hq. Co. 23rd Inf. Ft.
