dc.description.transcription45 Jersey St. San Francisco, Calif. Sept. 2, 1943 dear Smith - We were all so very glad to hear you were all right. It seemed so lng since any word had come that it was like a ray of sunshine to all of us. You're probably wondering about us all, so you can put your mind at rest. The whole family is just fine. I've had my hands full the last few weeks, tho. First, there was Christine's birthday -(she was 2) then my birthday- then Bobby had his tonsils out - Claude had the flu and now next Friday is Bobby's birthday. He'll be 4 years old. Does it seem that long since you was him? Remember how you and Claude "took care of each other" when I was in the hospital? I don't think I'll ever forget those huge "dagwood sandwiches" you and he tantalized me with when the doctor had me on that darned diet. Little did we think that in a few years there'd be an additional 2 or 3 in the family, did we? Wait until you see the kids. They're just darling. Johnny is 8 months old and so sweet. He crawls & climbs all over the place - keeps me holding my breath for fewr he'll fall or bump himpself. If its' possible I'll try to send you some snapshots just to show you what adorable nieces & nephews you have. Doris & Keith have increased their family too. Tommy is 10 months old & has curly hair like Dody, who is just as cute & devilish as ever. She is starting to school next week. Bobby is quite put out because he has to wait another year. Grandma Smith sends her love and prays for you often. David isn't much at writing letters so asked me to send his love and tell you he'll do enough for both of you now. He just got promoted and is very proud of his new rating. Before I forget, I hope you get the package I sent and please try to let me know if I left out anything you especially want.
