dc.description.transcription1 Fort Sam Houston March 15, 1937 Dear Grandma and Grandpa: I received your letter a day or two ago and certainly was glad to hear from you, it had been so long. I hope your cold is gone now and you feel mighty fine. I am getting along fine as usual. You know I'm always pretty healthy. I haven't been sick since 2 I've been in the Army. Of course I've had a few colds, but that is all. You know I've been in the Army almost two years but it doesn't seem like it. I'm two years older also but I don't feel it. Tell Charlie WAlker not to let th eHoly Rollers convert him. I'd like to see him when Charlie McG. starts teasing him. By the way, what made Florence start backsliding? The last letter I got from 3 her, she certainly was a devout disciple. We go on range this month or next so it will be May or June before I can come home. I'm going to try to save a little money before then. I'm going to get 60 days if I can. And I hope to work when I get there. I hope I can come home in May. WE're supposed to get our new Fast Tanks in April. Never can tell though; they're not putting out any information about them. 4 Tell Bee and Florence to write to me sometime. I would like to get a letter from them once in a while. I know I wrote the last letter to them. Virginia wants me to come to California in August. I certainly would like to and I am if I can. She's quite a young lady now. I wish you could see the large picture she sent me. I'll send you a large picture of myself next month. That is, if we're in Ft. Sam Houston next month. 5 It was too bad about Paul Raby being killed. Suck things will happen, though. I hope you wone the 97.50 at the show but I don't imagine you did. There isn't much chance. The Majestic Theatre here in San Antonio gave away $1500.00 one bank night. Tell Jack Killian that I'll probably be there for graduation exercises this year. Doesn't he graduate this year? Give Grover Grigsby my congratulations if you see him. I'd like to see him again. 6 I certainly would liked to have had a ringside seat when Ike run that bunch off. I'll be he was mad, all right. So Irving and Lurline are back. Tell them hello for me, will you! I supposed Lurline can still talk. Where is Ray and Pearl now? Also Obediah Harbour? Tell me more about our old neighbors. Well, I can't think of anything else to write about. Take care of yourself, both of you and take good care of Bruce. Lots of Love P.S. Keep the five spot. Smith Fort Sam Houston, Texas Dear Grandma and Grandpa, How is everybody in the old home town by now. I certainly hope that Grandpa is over with the flue by now and is feeling fine. I am feeling fine as always. I have been going pretty strong for the past week or two. We started firing the machine guns on the 1000 inch range last week. We fire every morning. I made expert last year so I don't fire this year. The range is about two miles from the barracks so we have radio communication between them. Thats what I do every morning. Its not hard but is very tiresome. Nearly every evening I practice baseball until about three o'clock. Then I usually go up to a bookie shop and bet on the horse races. I mostly do that for fun as I never lose anything nor do I win much. Then about six I usually go to the show. This monday and Tuesday, I went to the boxing Tournament. There was about 14 fights each night. Last night (Tuesday) during the 12th fight a cloud-burst and gully washer came down. I was soaked completely. Tuesday morning we had a Division Review for King Antonio XIX in honor of the Fiesta de San Jacinto. I made First Class Private last week. I get $30.00 a month now. I would have made it long ago if I hadn't transferred, but I like it here. Well, I must close now as I want to get a good nights sleep. We go to Camp Bullis about a week from today. When we come back I am going on a furlough. Good-bye. Lots of love from Smith S. Green 2nd Tank Co. Ft Sam Houston Texas Mr. W.M. Green Box #426 Broken Bow, Oklahoma
