dc.description.transcription | 45 Jersey St. San Francisco, Calif. March 29, 1943 Dear Grandma and Grandpa- I've had some more inforation from the War Department about Smith. We can write to him as often as we like. I am sending you a copy of the directions they sent me - also some other information about dependents etc. In the letter I received they said prisoners were being given good treatment considering all the circumstances which accompany war. They are given a medical examination once a month and hospital care if necessary. The prison camps are inspected by the Red Cross and also by representatives of the Protecting Power as provided by the Geneva Convention. Prisoners are allowed to write to friends and relatives and are receiving mail sent to them. Each prisoner is allowed one cable, and after that only in case of extreme emergency such as life or death. To send one contact the nearest American Red Cross Chapter. I haven't sent a cable because I thought perhaps you might want to say something too. Write and let me know. I've written all ready tho! We should all write as often as we can, don't you think? I can hardly wait to get a letter from SMith, even if he won't be able to say much because of censorship. Well, I guess that is about all the news that I have for now. I hope you both are feeling well and that this news cheers you up a little. As soon as I hear anything else I will let you know right away. The children are growing like weeds and Claude is feeling much better now too. He is working every day again. Write and let me know all the news. Love Virginia 45 Jersey St. San Francisco, Calif.
