dc.description.transcription1 Ft. Mc Dowell, Calif. October 2, 1939 Dear Grandma and Grandpa, I guess this is the last you'll hear of me until I arrive in Manila, P.I. The sailing list went up this morning and I am in the 1st Company. We are due to sail on the 4th which is the day after tomorrow. I went over to see Virginia and Doris and their families Saturday for the last time. They hoped I would miss this boat so I would have to stay here for 2 three more months. They are all fine. Virginia's boy is starting to grow now. Weights about seven lbs. I didn't get to see David because he was at the fair playing in some symphony orchestra. However he called up and said good bye. The pictures we took didn't turn out very good in fact the studio didn't make any prints. I have some pictures of Doris and the baby but they are in the bottom of my locker and it is on the ship by now. I will send some 3 pictures of the fair and of the U.S.A.T. Grant and Alcatraz. I am feeling fine and hope you are the same. Tell everyone hello for me and tell them I will write when I get to Manila. Well, I must close because the P.O. might close and I couldn't get stamps. Oh, yes! I'm sending ??? of what I borrowed. I could have sent it all but I wanted to have plenty for the trip and for 4 Hawaii and Manila. I'll send the rest later. I know you won't mind. Keep you chin up and take good care of yourselves. I got your card when I visted Virginina. It had been there several days. I didn't write before I left over there because I knew I was coming over here. Well, adios, until next time. I'll drop a card from Honolulu and write when I get to Manila and give my address. Lot and Lots of love, Smith S. Green Ft. McDowell Angel Island California WRITTEN 10/2/39 MR. W.M. GREEN Box 426 Broken Bow, Oklahoma
