dc.description.transcription1 Dibble General Hosp. Menlo Park, Calif. 5 October 45 Dear Grandpa & Grandma, I certainly was glad to hear from you and find out everyone is all right. I am feeling fine. I should be out of the hospital within 4 or 5 days from now. Then I intend to get a car, if possible, and drive back to Okla. I can drive by and get Aunt Lois and also come through Dallas and see the people there. Its taking longer than I expected to get everything straightened out. I stayed 10 days in San Francisco and reported back here on the 31st of Oct. expecting to get a furlough within a coupla (over) 2 days. however, I've been getting examined every day for some thing or another and it takes time. I think I finished all physical examinations today so about all I have to do now is wait around for a few days for a furlough and my pay. I've had a coupla letters and a phone call from Florence. She is getting along fine. She and John's wife are staying together. She said Bud was due to start back this month. I am the same way as you are about telephones. I never use one unless someone calls me or I just have to. I don't know what that is, 3 some people really enjoy talking over a phone. I certainly will be glad to get back there and see everyone. I'm trying to see everyone I can without having to back-track. I stopped off here becaue everyone here wanted me to stay with them for awhile and I figured I could do that while the Army straightened out my records and examined me. I hope you don't think I've forgotten you because you will always come first with me. If my delay in writing or coming home makes it seem as if I don't care, please forgive me, for I certainly don't mean that. I just have so much to see and 4 do that I'm half in a daze. Aunt Lucy G. seems to think I'm not very nice to stay here for a few days or so I gathered from the tone of her letter. She is one person I don't care if I never see. I never did care for her and frankly don't care if I ever do. Well, I will close for now. Give my love and regards to everyone. A very, very, Happy Birthday to Grandpa. I'll bring him a nice present. It will be a little late but I'd rather give it myself. I hope they let me go soon. Lots and Lots of Love. Take care of yourselves. Smith S.L. Green 45 Jersey St. San Francisco 15, Cal. Mr. W.M.
