Oakland, Calif. Nov. 9, 1942 Dear Mr. & Mrs. Green Hows the world treating you sweet people by now? We are installed in our new apartment tonite, and cooked our supper, didn't have any dinner, hunted apartment all day. Did they drain my hot water tank and cut off the water after we left? WE got to Dallas at 6:10 and our train was marked up to leave at 7:00 and before we left it was 1:40 Thurs. morning and it was that way all the way out there, in El Paso there were so many soldiers and sailors. When we boarded our train, there were so many they were packed like sardines so they made all get out that were standing, soldiers, sailors and all, and wait for the next train, but we were all in Los Angeles about the same time, what a ? and of all the hot footing we did it, you know in those large places you are chained off in chutes like cattle and when they say go, you have to sure enough go, ha! Seemed like we wealked miles and for two days couldn't get anything to eat, not a cup of coffee. They served the soldiers first and wouldn't be any left. After we got on the train at El Paso we ate in the dining car, and after we left Los Angeles, those trains were really nice and a radio in every coach, we got here Sat. nite at 9:10 and the depot is fifteen blocks from Mrs. Price's sister and it was raining we liked to never have gotten a cab, but finally got out here. Mary Jo was so thrilled to see her mother she just cried & cried. I'll get Eva to come by and get that pkg. I left on the divan and mail it to Vada, I forgot it. Well I've got so many to write I'd better move over, I've just completely lost out on my paper reading. Write me soon, and all the news, I sent Mr. Dodd a card to forward my mail, I hope he does maybe it would be a good idea for you to ask for it once or twice a week and if there are letters have them forward them and keep the papers, so the box wont fill up, please Lots of love, Ward
