Bleeding Games: Poems and Essays is a memoir told through poems and creative non-fiction that recounts an upbringing set on the fault lines of sexuality, religion, and familial relationships in the South. The form of the poems ranges from sestinas and sonnets to free verse. The poetry is accompanied by three personal essays that contextualize and elucidate the events and themes explored throughout the poems. The image and symbol of blood connects the three essays, changing meaning and shape as the text progresses chronologically.
