| dc.description.abstract | My collection of essays is comprised of 30 creative non-fiction essays under the title: Sojourned. Before beginning to write content for this collection I took studying the non-fiction genre very seriously and I began with taking notes from reading a list of other writers, non-fiction essayists, and memoirists. In preparation for writing this collection I journaled and took notes of ideas and topics I wanted to write about over the course of two years. I read books by Meghan Daum, Roxane Gay, Joan Didion, Eula Biss, David Sedaris, and I read them for their style as well as content. I tried to learn the way they gave me their stories, the way they told, controlled, and crafted their narratives. Creative non-fiction is an outlet for me to make cultural commentary through my personal experiences and observations I have made in the past four years. | |
