dc.description.transcription[OFFICERS’ MESS DAVIS-MONTHAN FIELD TUCSON, ARIZONA]11-11-44Dear Folks,Thiswill have to be a shortie as I have to write Amy. You probably got a circular letter from her just like mine so you know why I have to write her. I was told in no uncertain terms in both the first and last paragraph that I had better write her or else. There really isn’t much to tell except that as usual I’ve been working some and loafing some. The working end of it outweighs the loafing end but I have been doing some of both. The truth of the matter is, all of the loafing for the past week has been done today. This was another day for trainers. I didn’t get out scot free like I have the lasttwo or three times I’ve had trainers, but two hours of Link Trainer never hurt anybody as hot a pilot as I am, I guess that there are still a few things for me to learn. Don’t let anyone that knows anything about flying see that last statement unless theyhave a wonderful sense of humor. For recreation tonight I’m going to make myself sore again. Seems like that I would learn that I have to ride more often to keep from getting sore and then make it more enjoyable. I do like to ride even though I’m still not too sharp at it. This girl I ride with is pretty clever with the reins so she is teaching me how to bounce with the horse instead of against it. It seems like every time I write I have a favor to ask. Well here isanother. Mama, if Washer Bros. will sell it to you I want you to buy me a green shirt and form fit it for me. If you don’t want to risk fitting it without my being there I’ll just buy one here and have the tailor fit it. Somehow yours look better than the rest of them but it might just be that I am preje-dious (crossed thru dus) maybe that has it. Huh? (If that isn’t spelled right, and I know it isn’t, put partial in instead)This letter turned out to be not as short as I intended or expected it to be. I’ve used up all my writing time so Amy will have to wait until tomorrow I guess. Better than that, I’ll call home tomorrow. She said that she would be there tomorrow so maybe I can get the call in between the time church is out and the time that I have to be at the flight line 1345. It might be 1445 now that I think about it. Tell Brother that my radio man is still working on that tube but I am about to give up hope whether he is or not.See you tomorrow if I can get the call through.Love,Joe
