dc.description.transcription | November 29, 1950 Dr. Lincoln LaPaz University of New Mexico Box 190 Albuquerque, New Mexico Dear Lincoln: I have a number of Deport, Texas iron meteorites and will be glad to send you what you need. I will try to pick a couple of specimens weighing in excess of one ounce each so you can have a choice. It may take me a day or two to get around to this but you may expect these. I have noticed that some of the Deport irons seem to rust and deteriorate much more badly than others, presumably due to a difference in lawrencite content. If possible, I may send you one of each kind. The very rusty ones will have [crumbling] layers of oxide that you will have to knock off. I did not do any meteor observing during the week of the Bielids from about the 16th on we had cloudy weather so that I did not try [the leonids] at all and truthfully I did not even try to watch for any of the Bielids. Yours sincerely, OEM:bn [meteor 1 ee 68.6 gas - very scaly 1 dx 47.7 - well preserved] | |
