University of Hawai’i at Manoa Planetary Geosciences Department of Geology and Geophysics School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology 2525 Correa Road • Honolulu, Hawaii 96822, USA Telephone: (808) 956-6488 • Facsimile: (808) 956-6322 Dr. Art Ehlmann Dept. of Geology Texas Christian Univ. Fort Worth, TX 76129 May 9, 1994 Dear Art, Enclosed are some of the materials related to the Bluff meteorite(s). These are: Hand sample Bluff M53.3 Hand sample Bluff M52.5 PTS Bluff (a) M53.3 PTS Bluff (a) M52.5 PTS Bluff (b) M179.1 These are the TCU sections of these meteorites. I am retaining the UH sections to complete the research. A casual examination suggests that the two Bluff (a) pieces are the same, as we might expect, but that the Bluff (b) may be different. This will require some more effort to unravel completely, but I think it is a straightforward problem. I also wanted to let you know about the status of these projects. The Tatum manuscript should be sent to Meteoritics before the end of the month, but the Travis Co. and Bluff projects will have to wait completion until my arrival in Houston. The Lueders project is coming along nicely. Samples have been sent out, I have one PTS in hand and we have photos of the polished butt end. We should have all of the data we need by late summer and be ready to submit a manuscript by early winter. I have been keeping in touch with the Reves to let them know how the work is progressing. I'll keep you updated. How was your birding trip to the southeast part of the country? Things have been very hectic here, with getting ready for the move and all. We are looking forward to getting back to the mainland. If we haven't already talked to you by the time this box comes, we will be calling about numerous questions we have about some of these projects. Take care and say hi to Carol. Sincerely, Tim McCoy
