dc.description.transcriptioncc:Mail for: mccoy Subject: Re: Mart From: M.Grady@nhm.ac.uk at sn-internet 10/5/94 5:27 AM To: tmccoy at JSC_SSED Dear Tim, Re: Bluff, Cedar (Texas) and Mart: Mart: purchased from Dr Henry A. Ward of Chicago in July 1900 Bluff: purchased from Messrs. Ward and Howell, Rochester, NY in May 1889. Cedar (Texas): Our specimen (BM 1924,441) is a slice acquired by exchange with the US National Museum in 1924. Our records say that this specimen was from "one of the stones found in 1918". This does not tie in with the report that 3 stones were found in 1900 (Merrill, Min Abstr. vol. 1 p. 43), or the BM Catalogue find date of 1890, plus a fourth in about 1906! The slice has the number "240" inked onto the back, which might be a Smithsonian catalogue number. We have a copy of the 1906 Smithsonian Catalogue, which does not list Cedar (Texas) . Does this help or hinder the research? Do you have access to catalogues of the Ward-Coonley collection, etc. If not, you should come to London and browse! regards, Monica
