dc.description.transcription1950, Sept. 10 Porter Rankin, P. O. Box. 2024, Midland, Texas. Dear Mr. Ranking I am sure you price on the amethyst ring is quite low, and I had no intention of trying to take advantage of you or the Simpson's in sending a check for the price they quoted. Let me know what commission you think they should be paid and I'll bo glad to pay that much, either directly to you or to them. The Simpson's were very nice to us. Thanks for the information about the stone and ring; this always makes an item more interesting to me. I think on a lot of things in this world we sell words as well as material! Thanks, too, for submitting the meteorites, which I will examine with interest when they arrive. I am of course familiar with Canyon Diablo I was at the crater last week at a mooting of The Meteoritical Society, and in a few minutes search with a metal detector found a 4 pound two ounce one about 5 inches underground. I know about the Hereford, Texas, find but don't have a representative piece in our collection. The "rusty" one you mention from near Fort Stockton (“near” as distances go in West Texas) I'll check with interest. I'll write again after I've asked these over. Sincerely,
