Abstract | Maggie Black was an internationally renowned ballet teacher during the second half of the twentieth century whose anatomically based approach to ballet training supported the careers of many dance professionals in both ballet and modern dance. This research explores her enduring legacy through a case study of the pedagogies of her students, Kim Abel and Zvi Gotheiner. By analyzing the development of their respective pedagogies in relationship to Blacks work, this research examines the transition of ballets pedagogical lineage from one generation to the next. |
