Abstract | BODIPY dyes are versatile sensors because of their many desirable photophysical properties. These dyes have been shown to be viable probes for detecting amyloid -beta peptides, while showing significant advantages over currently utilized dye-binding assays. Most of the research and development of these dyes has been done on symmetric compounds, and current syntheses of non-symmetric dyes are neither facile nor efficient. Our research has examined ways to synthesize non-symmetric BODIPY dyes more efficiently using a solvent-free, one-pot synthetic approach. By grinding a pyrrole and a carbonyl-containing pyrrole in the presence of a base, followed by the addition of boron trifluoride, we have synthesized non-symmetric BODIPY dyes in a more expeditious manner. Our current synthetic methods appear to be applicable to a variety of structurally and functionally diverse BODIPY dyes, although the overall efficiency still needs improvements. Based on the initial success, it is anticipated that a facile, efficient and economical synthetic approach toward non-symmetric BODIPY dyes will be achieved in the near future. |

On symmetric neighborhood systems in metric, strongly paracompact and some other types of spaces
Wiscamb, Margaret Reames (1965)A collection of sets {U( p) I p in R} is said to be symmetric if p in U(q) implies q in U(p) for every p, q in R. This thesis investigates the effects of this property on other known topological properties. For example, ... -
Density deconvolution for generalized skew-symmetric distributions
Potgieter, Cornelis J. (2020-07-23)The density deconvolution problem is considered for random variables assumed to belong to the generalized skew-symmetric (GSS) family of distributions. The approach is semiparametric in that the symmetric component of the ... -
Facile Synthesis of Pyrrolyl-Containing Semisquaraines in Water as Precursors for Non-Symmetric Squaraines
Ta, Daniel D.; Favret, Jeanne M.; Dzyuba, Sergei V. (12/28/2022)One-step reactions between squaric acid and pyrroles, such as 3-ethyl-2,4-dimethyl-pyrrole and 1,2,5-trimethylpyrrole, in water provide the corresponding pyrrol-2-yl- and pyrrol-3-yl-containing semisquaraines in high yields. ...
